Utility charges for park homes
Utility meters
Your park home will usually have its own gas and electricity meters, and sometimes a water meter.
If the site owner wants to install a new meter
The site owner will need your permission to install a new meter on your pitch, such as a smart gas or electricity meter or a water meter.
They cannot force you to have one, and they cannot enter your pitch unless you agree.
You cannot be charged for installing a meter on your pitch, unless either:
- the charge is clearly allowed in your pitch agreement
- the work counts as an improvement to the site, and the site owner consults on it correctly – in this case they could add the cost to the pitch fee
If you want a new meter
If you want to fit a water meter or replace a standard gas or electricity meter with a smart meter, you can ask the site owner to install one, but they are not legally required to.
You may need permission before installing one yourself. Check your pitch agreement and the site rules.
Meter reading
The site owner can enter your pitch without giving you notice between 9am and 6pm to read your utility meters, as long as they behave reasonably in how they do this.
You cannot be charged for meter reading, unless the charge is allowed in your pitch agreement.
