Tribunal fees and exemptions

In England: fees for the First-Tier Tribunal

The standard fee is £114.

If a hearing is needed, there’s an extra fee of £227.

Exception

For pitch fee review disputes, the fee is £23. There is no extra fee if a hearing is needed.

Help with fees in England

If eligible, you can apply for a fee reduction.

You can do this before or after you pay the fee.

You might be eligible if your income or savings are below a certain amount or you get certain benefits. You’re likely to get help with the fees if you get Pension Credit (the guarantee credit element).

In Wales: fees for the Residential Property Tribunal

In Wales the fees are:

  • £155 for one home or pitch
  • £205 for two homes or pitches
  • £410 for three or four homes or pitches
  • £515 for five or more homes or pitches

There are no extra fees if a hearing is needed.

If eligible, you can apply for a fee waiver.

You might be eligible if your income or savings are below a certain amount or you get certain benefits like Housing Benefit or Pension Credit (the guarantee credit element). 

You apply for the waiver using tribunal form RPT19.

How to pay the fees

Full details on how to pay the fees are included on the individual tribunal forms.

Cheque or postal order

Include your cheque or postal order with your application form and write your name and address on the back.

In England: make payable to ‘HM Courts and Tribunal Service’.

In Wales: make payable to the ‘Welsh government’.

Online banking or bank transfer

After you send your application form the tribunal will confirm their payment details. They usually give you a reference number to use for the payment.

Do not send cash

Cash payments are not accepted. If you send cash your application may be returned.
