What to do if the site owner is trying to block a sale

If you know or suspect that a site owner is trying to block a sale, there are some things you can do.

Step 1: complain to the site owner

It is sometimes enough to contact the site owner to explain that what they are doing is illegal.

Step 2: report the attempted sale blocking to the local council

The local council has the power to prosecute site owners that try to block sales.

Convicted site owners can be fined or imprisoned.

Step 3: if the local council does not take action

You can use your local council’s complaints procedure.

If you’re not happy with how they deal with your complaint, you can report the matter to the Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman.
