Government launches call for evidence on park home sale commission

The government has launched a call for evidence on the rationale for the commission paid to site owners when a park home is sold.

The payment of commission – currently capped at 10% of the sale price – has been a statutory requirement since the introduction of the Mobile Homes Act 1975 and was retained in the Mobile Homes Act 1983.

The payment has been the subject of debate within the sector for many years.

The call for evidence aims to improve understanding of the rationale for the commission payment, how the commission rate was originally set and the role it plays within existing legislation and the park homes sector’s business model.

The government is seeking evidence on a range of issues including:

  • the historical basis for commission payments before they were introduced in legislation
  • what the commission is intended to cover
  • how commission interacts with other income streams such as pitch fees and the sale of new homes
  • how the payment operates within the current legislative framework.

The government is encouraging park home residents and others with an interest to contribute to the call for evidence.

The call for evidence will run until 29 May 2026. Responses can be submitted online or by email to [email protected].
